April 7th Show Notes
There was agreement that the club has the skills and resources to help families dispose of tools and wood after a turner has passed
Ward will solicit interest, in the next Newsletter, for committee members to establish policy and practices
It was noted that:
Most families are interested in disposing wood and equipment rather than making a quick buck or recouping sunk costs
These tasks can be made more manageable by sharing the load
There are templates/policies available from other clubs that will help us determine best practices- for example AWA Tool Disposal Program
Inventories, pictures and prices are helpful to selling
Our experienced turners can generally estimate what people are willing to spend on a piece of used equipment
Safety and security of the family is important, as well as the safety of members helping to dispose of equipment, particularly heavy pieces
Limiting sales to cash-only helps eliminate scams (like those seen on Craig’s List or Facebook Market Place)
Common courtesies go a long way in helping out
